I travelled out to Lilydale in the rain and mist with Ray Bassett and gave a talk on Lilydale's involvement in WW1. Seventy people at an Exhibition Opening on a rainy night is not bad. Wonderful time chatting with old acquaintances and meeting new ones. I congratulate the Heritage Lilydale Committee and helpers on the results of many months of dedicated work. You can read the speech below or download here. I welcome your comments, reactions and suggestions.

I was one of the many people who heard Phil's speech. It was superb. Tanya Rattray, MLA was in the audience and commented later that it was one of the best she had heard, and being a politician, she would have heard an awful lot of speeches!

Thanks for the opportunity and your generous appraisal, Catherine, and congratulations to you and all the Heritage Lilydale participants for the brilliant Exhibition and so much (ongoing) hard work. I must make one admission of error of fact: Anne Youl tells me there are no fewer than seven Chick males still resident in the Lilydale area. My apologies to them for not doing a careful fact check on that.
