I think these images come from the loose collection of the Pollard family photos that came down to Irene Turner nee Pollard daughter of Andrew Gordon Pollard and May Bird. Irene Turner passed away in 2018 and many of her Pollard and Chick and Boon photos were put in the care of Heritage Lilydale in Nov 2019. I have scanned most of them and worked with on identifying who's who. The first photo is supposedly William Henry Pollard (21 March 1847 – 5 October 1910) and wife Mary Ann Carmichael (1857–1936 KH1Y-YRY). The second photo here shows the Reverend wearing a dog collar. LADIES' MATCH. LILYDALE v. UNDERWOOD.The Underwood team of ladies visited Lilydale on the holiday to play the Lilydale ladies on their own ground. The visitors were captained by Miss Lizzie Box, and the locals by Mrs. W. J. Arnold. The latter, winning the toss, decided to send Underwood in to bat. The last wicket fell when the score had reached the century. Lilydale followed with 27. Following on, they made 67, leaving Underwood winners by an innings and six runs. Rev. Gilbert E. Moore was "cricket advisor" to the Lilydale ladies, and Mr. James Duke acted in a similar capacity to the Underwood team.
The Underwood ladies played splendidly. Special mention must be made of Misses Lizzie and Katie Box, who made 58 out of the 100 runs, and took all the wickets in the first innings of Lilydale. Though Underwood scored such a great victory, Lilydale fought a hard uphill game, and shaped well, considering that about a month ago none of them knew anything about cricket. When the stumps were drawn all made their way over to Mr. F. Proctor's for tea. Captain Box, on behalf of the Underwood team, thanked Lilydale for their hospital ity, andt trusted they would soon have the pleasure of meeting them on their ground at Underwood, when she hoped another enjoyable aftenoon's sport would result. She then called for three cheers for the Lilydale team. Captain Arnold, on behalf of Lilydale, said they had spent a most enjoyable day. They were sorry they were defeated, but hoped if they ever met Underwood again they would be able to score a victory. Cheers were then given for the visitors. A social, which was held in the Military Hall, brought an enjoyable day to a close. Following are the scores:- UNDERW0OD. First Innings. LADIES' MATCH.The Underwood ladies visited Lilydale on Wednesday to play Lilydale, on their own ground. It was a beautiful day, and a very enjoyable game resulted. Miss Lizzie Box captained the visitors, while Miss Ella Proctor had charge of the locals. Captain Proctor, winning the toss, decided to bat, the last wicket fall ing when 36 runs had been made. Underwood followed, and managed to put up the grand total of 200 runs. This was due to the splendid batting of Misses Ella and Louie Bligh, who made 100 and 68 respectively. Lilydale, though beaten so badly, showed a decided improvement in form since the last match. Messrs. D. Burke and A. Quinn acted as cricket advisers. After the match was over, an adjournment was made to Mrs. W. J. Arnold's for tea, where cheers were given for each side. A concert in the Military Hall wound up a most pleasant and enjoyable day.
A pair of kid gloves presented by Rev. Gilbert E. Moore, for this lady who had the highest score for Lilydale, was won by Miss Lillian Brooke. Miss Ella Bligh also won a pair of kid gloves for being the highest scorer for Underwood. Scores: LILYDALE. Ethel Ewans, c. Louie Bligh, b Kate Box .... ...... ............. 0 Mary Dornauf, b.
