I thought you might be interested in this. It's a tree I walk past daily on the walking track Rick cut in at the back of our property where the plantation trees were.
Judging by the size of it, it's pretty old. If you look carefully, the tree is re-growth from an even older tree that has been cut. I wonder if it might have provided some of the timber to build our house?
I often wonder as I walk (petrified of things that slither and creep) about those pioneering Mahnkens literally carving out a living on the land. What were their dreams for the property? How did they manage snakes and Jack Jumpers?! And of course the aboriginal people before them. How did they manage the land? What did it mean to them? So many stories untold.
It strikes me that we are all temporary visitors connecting in some way to our environment. We can only do our best to leave it in good hands for the next caretakers.
