Heritage Lilydale is preparing a tribute to the many men from the Lilydale region who served in World War 1. Many were directly descended from German families who settled here in the 1860s. Despite the strong German heritage, many felt allegiance with their new home and choose to enlist to fight their cousins. This had an impact on the community during and after the Great War. We are collating the names of people who have strong association with the many corners of this region: Lilydale Lebrina Lalla Bangor Tunnel Turners Marsh Lower Turners Marsh Karoola Nabowla Golconda Lisle Wyena Mt Arthur Retreat Underwood Pipers River
