REDUCTION OF HOURS. LONGFORD, Monday. A meeting of between 250 and 300 workmen was held in the Rechabite Hall, Longford, on Saturday to consider the reduction of the working hours with threshing machines.
Mr. E. Murnane was voted to the chair, and in his opening remarks laid very clearly before the meeting what the men wanted, viz., to work from 6 a.m. till 6 p.m.
Mr. Wm. Williams spoke on behalf of the men, and moved a resolution to the effect that the time had come to reduce the hours of working, which should be from 6 a.m. till 6 p.m. This was seconded by Mr. F. Bird, and carried.
It was proposed by Mr. Eley, and seconded by Mr. Walker- "That the following committee should wait upon the farmers, and ask them to meet the men in conference and discuss a definite settlement:--W.
