LEBRINA
LESSONS at Lebrina State School last Friday were conducted by Mr. N. Hawkin and dealt with Empire Day and its meaning. After saluting the flag the children, with their teacher, adjourned to the home of Cr. J. H. Mahnken, where they listened to the Empire service broadcast. After being presented with badges and sweets by Mr. Hawkins and biscuits and fruit by Mrs. Mahnken the children were given a half-holiday.
Mr. and Mrs. G. Lockhart and family spent a holiday with relatives on the North-West Coast. Mr. T. Kettle has been on a visit to relatives in Launceston. Mrs E. Adams spent a few days with Mrs. A. Eley.
LEFROY
TANKS that have been empty for months were filled to overflowing during the week-end. Torrential downpours commenced at Lefroy on Friday night and continued during Saturday and Sunday.
Mr. E. Lewis. Lefroy, was admitted to the Launceston General Hos- pital, suffering from an injury to his leg received when he slipped on a floor.
Mrs. C. Dunn, and her grand- daughter, of Melbourne, are visiting Mr. Ryan. Beachford.
LILYDALE
A SUCCESSFUL fair was held in the show building at Lilydale for the queen of progress (Miss Eunice Cameron). In the absence of the Minister for Agriculture (Mr. Madden), who was detained in Hobart, the Warden (Mr. L. A.Procter. M.L.C.) opened the fair. Stallholders were: - Produce: Sister M. Walsh and Mrs. L. Mahnken. Cakes: Mesdames H. Hope, L. Gerzalia, Manzoney and R. Bardenhagen, Sweets: Misses Meg Chick, D. Chick, E. Cameron, M. Bardenhagen and B. Dolbey. Savoury: Mesdames P .L. Hamilton, L. A. Procter and W. Wilson. Refreshments: Mesdames A. J. Cassidy, Les Dornauf, C. Cameron, S. Grandfield, E. Franklin and F. Kelp. Messrs. J. Swain, W. Glover and P. H. West provided music for the dance which followed. Winners of the novellas were Mr. K. Oliver and Miss M. Chick (Monte Carlo), Mr J. Swain (chocolate waltz). Miss Jean Hammersley also won a competition. The stall and refreshments were in the hands of Mesdames A. J. Cassidy, C. Cameron, L. Dornauf and L. Procter. Messrs. L. Atkinson, R. Kelp and A. Cameron were doorkeepers.
UNDERWOOD
A BALL was held in the Coronation Hall Underwood, for Miss Pat Arnold, farmers' queen in the Lilydale queen carnival. Music was supplied by K. Johnston's orchestra, and Mr. T. Whiting was M.C. Door keepers were Messrs. F. Underlin and J. Arnold. Supper was served by Mesdames A. Brooks, R. Shepherd, G. Ramskill and F. Underlin. The winners of the novelties were Mesdames A. Brooks and G. Ramskill (Monte Carlo) and Mr. J. West (chocolate waltz).
The 65th anniversary of the Underwood Methodist Church was celebrated with a special service conducted by Rev. A. Crooke Hull, Invermay. Musical items were supplied by Misses Jean Graham and Pat Spotswood and Mrs. M. Alderton, Launceston. Visitors from Lilydale and Launceston were present.
