Heritage Lilydale is a not-for profit community group which aims to preserve, record, interpret and stimulate ongoing interest in the rich heritage of the Lilydale district in Tasmania's northeast.
2015 was the year when Heritage Lilydale really made a splash, with its inaurugal exhbition, Fighting Our Cousins during the Anzac week, and the launch of historian Nigel Burch's book Ephemeral Lisle.

Formal documentation |
Yes, it does sound a bit dull, but so that Heritage Lilydale can operate professionally and with clear policies and procedures, we worked on all the documentation to support that.
Book launch - The Piper's Call by Nigel Burch
In May 2016, Nigel's new book was launched at the most perfect location - the Bangor Church. Sincere thanks to the owners for allowing this event to happen.
Nigel not only gave an informative talk about the history of the area, but also led us in song. We didn't sound as good as the Welsh slate miners used to (they gave professional concerts), but we did well. |
The songs were accompanied by the sound of the old, asthmatic organ still at the church.

Book launch - Ephemeral Lisle by Nigel Burch
Another inaugural event was the book launch.
A large number of people crowded into the Memorial Hall supper room to enjoy a presentation by historian and Heritage Lilydale member, Nigel Burch, about the gold mine at Lisle.
Many descendants of the mining town residents still live in the Lilydale district. It was such a great evening, and thanks to so many people who brought a plate. Check out our slide show below.

The Cenotaph - Lilydale RSL
Lilydale RSL secured funding for the Lilydale Cenotaph and has been gifted a stunning design by award-winning landscape designer Leon Lange. He has created a brilliant interpretation of the extraordinary story that the Lilydale District has to tell.
Heritage Lilydale provided the information for the Cenotaph, preparing information for the permanent panels and collating the information and a photo (where possible) about each of the soldiers from this district who died in World War One.

Arts Tasmania grants - 2014 and 2015
Heritage Lilydale was honoured to receive two Small Museums and Collections Grants from Arts Tasmania, one in in November 2014 and the other in December 2015. The grants enabled Heritage Lilydale to worki with professional museum curators to develop a collection policy, care for and catalogue our collection as well as prepare for our first exhibition from 25th April to 3rd May at the Lilydale Memorial Hall from 10-4 daily.
Heritage Lilydale is grateful to Arts Tasmania for allowing us the expertise of two Roving Curators, Veronica Macno and Melissa Smith.
